Characters · 1980–present

Bob and Doug McKenzie — the two toque-wearing hosers Dave created with Rick Moranis, who became a five-decade pop-culture phenomenon.

Bob and Doug McKenzie are a pair of fictional Canadian brothers who hosted “The Great White North,” a sketch introduced on SCTV in 1980. Rick Moranis and I created them — Rick plays Bob, I play Doug.

They took off in every medium on both sides of the border: a million-selling, Grammy-nominated comedy album (“Great White North”), the cult MGM film Strange Brew, television commercials for Pizza Hut and Molson, editorial cartoons, and an animated series.

In 2020, life-size bronze statues of Bob and Doug — sculpted by Ritchie Velthuis with the SCTV Monument Committee — were installed outside Rogers Place in Edmonton. Beauty, eh?
